SOURCEFIRE RECOGNIZED FOR BEST INTRUSION SOLUTION BY SC MAGAZINE

SC Global Awards 2005 adds to the growing accolades for open source Snort®, the most widely adopted intrusion detection and prevention technology in the industry

Columbia, MD, February 23, 2005 - Sourcefire, Inc., the world leader in real-time network defense, today announced that Snort®, created by Sourcefire founder, Martin Roesch, has been named Best Intrusion Solution at the annual SC Magazine Global Awards ceremony held on February 16 at the 2005 RSA Show (Nasdaq:RSAS) in San Francisco. Sourcefire, who manages the Snort project, topped Intrusion Prevention products from Enterasys, McAfee and TippingPoint in winning this top honor.

“Snort has become the de facto standard for intrusion detection and prevention because it delivers exactly the flexibility and precision that organizations need to protect their networks,” said Martin Roesch, Author of Snort and Founder/CTO of Sourcefire. “We are very proud of this recognition from SC Magazine and will continue the rapid pace of development that has put Snort on the leading edge of network security innovation.”

Snort has been downloaded more than 2 million times and has over 100,000 active users. The Snort rules language has also emerged as an industry standard with download rates tripling over the last year alone. Sourcefire’s award-winning Vulnerability Research Team works closely with the open source community to develop the official Snort Rules that are distributed on Snort.org. This partnership results in much faster response to new threats while maintaining unparalleled quality and performance.

“It has been exciting to see Snort evolve into the leading Intrusion Solution,” said Keith McCammon, Intrusion Engineer at ManTech and Founder of the Washington, DC Snort User Group. “The popularity of Snort and the continuous innovation that Sourcefire and the Snort user community provide are driving the entire industry to offer security solutions that more effectively meet the needs of today’s business.”
