SOURCEFIRE NAMED TO AO100 TOP PRIVATE COMPANIES FOR 2004 -- HONORING THE BEST IN INNOVATION

Company Awarded for Demonstrating Market Traction and the Ability to Disrupt Existing Markets

Columbia, MD, July 12, 2004 - Sourcefire, Inc., the world leader in real-time network defense, today announced that AlwaysOn and KPMG LLP have named Sourcefire to the AO100 Top Private Companies for 2004. In choosing Sourcefire for this prestigious award, AlwaysOn looked at the company’s innovation and leadership, based on “market traction measured by revenue or customer growth, and game-changing approaches and technologies that are likely to disrupt existing markets and entrenched players.”

AlwaysOn editors compiled the second-annual elite AO100 list with assistance from KPMG's emerging business practice, KPMG 1Start. The two groups surveyed more than 1,000 venture investors, investment bankers, top entrepreneurs and executives, who nominated more than 700 companies to determine the AO100 winners.

" Private company innovation is incredibly strong and continues to flourish. Over 50 of last year's AO100 companies returned to this year's list and 50 new companies have been selected that are well positioned to significantly contribute to the second-generation of the Internet," notes Tony Perkins, AlwaysOn founder.

“ Sourcefire is thrilled to be recognized with other companies who are changing the rules, such as Google and Salesforce.com, and we are proud that this award recognizes both our technology innovation and our stellar growth and momentum,” said Wayne Jackson, CEO of Sourcefire. “Being ‘Always On’ means being Always Vulnerable and Sourcefire is providing our customers with the most effective way to secure a network and an enterprise. With the introduction of RNA last year, we opened the door for a lot of our customers who were looking for a way to better understand the systems, activities and vulnerabilities on their networks so that they could better protect their assets and users. This innovation combined with our unrivaled sales organization has lead Sourcefire to become a recognized threat to the security industry incumbents.”

The premise of the AO100 list occurred from the demand by consumers and businesses requiring new technologies for greater access to the Web and applications that provide more convenience and productivity. This increased demand is creating new opportunities for innovative new companies that are well positioned to bring about a change in the market.

The AO100 companies will be honored at a reception during the upcoming AO2004: The Innovation Summit to be held July 13-15 at Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center on the Stanford University Campus. This event is being produced in partnership with the Stanford Technology Ventures Program.
