SOURCEFIRE NAMED #1 RISING STAR IN DELOITTE’S TECHNOLOGY FAST 50 PROGRAM FOR MARYLAND
Columbia, Md., October 11, 2004 - Sourcefire, Inc., the
world leader in real-time network defense, has been named the top Rising
Star in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 program for Maryland in recognition
of its 5884% growth over the past three years. The Rising Star award is a
special designation for fast-growth technology companies that have been in
business just three or four years and is part of the Maryland Technology
Fast 50 program, which ranks the 50 fastest growing technology companies
headquartered in Maryland. Rankings are based on the percentage of growth
in fiscal year revenues over three years (2001 to 2003). Wilmer, Cutler,
Pickering, Hale and Dorr is the sponsor for this year’s Maryland Technology
Fast 50 program and PR Newswire is the official media partner.
“Sourcefire is an innovative company with an unrivaled management team
that is capable of identifying key customer needs and developing solutions
that
not only address those requirements, but provide exponential value that the
customer hadn’t thought possible,” said Harry Weller, Partner
at New Enterprise Associates. “As an investor, New Enterprise Associates
recognized the value Sourcefire could provide, and we are pleased that customers
are finding even greater value than we originally anticipated.”
Sourcefire was founded by Martin Roesch, creator of Snort, the world’s
most widely deployed Intrusion Detection System with more than 2 million
downloads to date. The company’s growth has been fueled by its innovative
security technologies, which enable companies to protect their assets at
a time when traditional perimeter defenses, such as firewalls, are proving
ineffective at preventing threats. As new applications and technologies,
such as wireless and remote access, introduce new threats from both outside
and within the network, Sourcefire is transforming the way companies secure
their networks with real-time discovery and protection throughout their entire
environment.
“The Deloitte Maryland Technology Fast 50 Rising Star companies have
shown the strength, vision and temerity to succeed despite a very challenging
technology
environment,” said Gary H. Tabach of Deloitte’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications
Practice and Office Managing Partner for Deloitte’s McLean, Virginia
office. “We applaud the successes of Sourcefire and acknowledge their
place as the top Rising Star winner with 5884% growth over the past three
years.”
“
We are honored to be recognized by Deloitte and PR Newswire for our strong
performance,” said Wayne Jackson, Sourcefire’s CEO. “In
today’s complex network environments where perimeter defenses are no
longer adequate, companies need security solutions that identify vulnerabilities
the instant they appear, detect compromised assets in real-time and enforce
network policies on a persistent basis. Sourcefire is the only company that
has been able to address these needs and this recognition is directly tied
to the value that we are delivering to our customers.”
To qualify for the Technology Fast 50 Rising Star program, companies must
have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2001 and $1,000,000 in
2003, must be public or private companies headquartered in North America,
and be a “technology company” defined as owning proprietary technology
that contributes to a significant portion of the company’s operating
revenues (using other companies’ technology in a unique way does not
qualify); and/or devoting a significant proportion of revenues to research
and development of technology.
Rising Star winners are automatically entered in the Deloitte Technology
Fast 500 program’s Rising Star category. The Deloitte Technology Fast
500 program ranks North America’s top 500 fastest growing technology
companies based on revenue growth over . five years (1999–2003). Its
Rising Star ranking is based on revenue growth over three years (2001–2003).
