SOURCEFIRE NAMED #2 RISING STAR IN THE NATIONAL DELOITTE TECHNOLOGY FAST 500 PROGRAM

Attributes its 5,884 Percent Revenue Growth to Innovative Technologies

Columbia, Md., October 25, 2004 - Sourcefire, Inc., the world leader in real-time network defense, has been named the #2 Rising Star on the 2004 Deloitte Technology Fast 500, a ranking of the fastest growing technology companies in North America. The Rising Star list ranks 25 winners that have been in business for more than three years and less than five. They are ranked based on percentage of growth in revenues over three years (2001 to 2003). With a 5,884 percent increase in revenues from 2001 to 2003, Sourcefire is the fastest growing network security company and the second fastest growing Rising Star overall.

“Sourcefire is delivering innovative technologies that radically improve the way companies secure their network assets”, said Wayne Jackson, Sourcefire’s CEO. “Judging by the volume of security-related down time, it’s becoming more and more obvious that first generation security vendors are not getting the job done. Sourcefire’s pro-active, real-time capabilities finally give security professionals the advantage over the hacker. Our business momentum is solid evidence that our products really deliver.”

Sourcefire was founded by Martin Roesch, creator of Snort, the world’s most widely deployed Intrusion Detection and Prevention System with more than 2 million downloads and hundreds of thousands of active users worldwide. Sourcefire’s most recent innovation, RNA (Real Time Network Awareness), provides the precise, comprehensive network information needed to identify the threats that really matter and to automate processes that would otherwise consume valuable time and energy.

" It is not easy for a young company to get traction in the technology marketplace let alone report such phenomenal revenue growth," said Mark A. Evans, national managing partner of Deloitte's Technology, Media & Telecommunications Group. "It's a credit to Sourcefire's leadership that they've managed to ramp up their business so quickly."

Rising Star Qualifications
To qualify as a Fast 500 Rising Star, entrants must have had 2001 operating revenues of at least $50,000 USD and $75,000 CD for the United States and Canada, respectively; and 2003 operating revenues must be at least $1 million USD or CD.

Entrants must also be public or private companies headquartered in North America, and be a "technology company," defined as a company that owns proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues; or devotes a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology. Using other companies' technology in a unique way does not qualify.
