The SNORT^® Engine

If you think of Sourcefire 3D as a high performance car, Snort delivers the high performance engine – a critical part – but one that on its own will not get you anywhere. You still need a chassis, transmission, electrical system, etc. Sourcefire provides purpose-built appliances that deliver all of the components that make up the entire car.

There is one more element required – high octane fuel. Like any high performance system – Snort requires premium fuel to optimize performance. That’s the role the Sourcefire VRT plays – delivering accurate, high-performance rules that maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of Snort.

As part of our ongoing dedication and active involvement in the community, Sourcefire continues to enhance Snort and provide value-add services for open source users. For example, the Sourcefire Security Education Program is a comprehensive certified training program. Delivered direct from the creators of Snort, users learn the latest real world tools and techniques for optimizing Snort technology and all Sourcefire products.
