Synopsis:

The Sourcefire VRT is aware of vulnerabilities affecting multiple Microsoft products including, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, XML Core Services, OLE, VML, Excel and the Graphics Rendering Engine.

Details:

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-042: Microsoft XML Core Services suffer from poor programming to the extent that it is possible for a remote attacker to execute code on an affected system. It may be possible for the attacker to take complete control of the target system.

A rule to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability is included in this release and is identified as SID 12279.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-043: Programming errors affecting Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) Automation as used in various Microsoft products, may allow an attacker to execute code on a vulnerable system.

A rule to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability is included in this release and is identified as SID 12279.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-044: Microsoft Excel may allow an attacker to execute code via a Workspace index value which can be manipulated to cause a memory corruption on an affected system.

A rule to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability is included in this release and is identified as SID 12284.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-045: Microsoft Internet Explorer suffers from multiple vulnerabilities that may allow an attacker to execute code on an affected system.

Rules to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability are included in this release and are identified as SIDs 12261 through 12276.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-046: The Microsoft Graphics Rendering Engine (GDI) contains a programming error that may allow an attacker to cause a heap based overflow and execute code on an affected system.

Rules to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability were previously released and are identified as SIDs 2436 and 5318.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-047: Microsoft Windows Media Player suffers from programming errors that may allow an attacker to execute code on a vulnerable system. The errors occur when processing malformed skin files.

A rule to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability is included in this release and is identified as SID 12278.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-050: The Microsoft Vector Markup Language (VML) implementation suffers from a serious problem that may allow an attacker to execute code on an affected system.
